I asked my 6-month daughter what she thought of trans fats. After she grew a moustache, this is what she said.
I really wish they would stop playing this radio commercial in the Phoenix area. It creeps me out to think about having a supertanker of testosterone dripping all over inside my body.
Looks like someone switched to @DrChrono. I’m looking forward to never using paper charts. #EHR (Taken with Instagram at Goodwill)
What does it mean to be listened to?
To be listened to is to connect. The human experience is a collection of atoms, molecules, cells, tissues, organs floating around in space. Bouncing from the evening news to traffic jams to the crappy breakfast at Denny’s and around and ‘round we go. The Master Chemist blends us together and reactions abound. Some are explosive. A few are better on ice, and a handful can’t handle the bunsen burner’s feeble flame. The lucky ones precipitate out of the milieu and form a lifelong connection.
To be listened to is to open up your thoracic cavity and expose the thoughts and fears that lurk beneath the fascia. The dreams that never quite eject from the left ventricle to navigate the arterial highways and byways. To be listened to is to tell the security guard to go home and to open all your doors for business.
There are few people in my life that have been able to listen to me. I feel blessed that these are mostly found within the walls of my home and the branches of my family tree. I was raised in a large family - 5 brothers and 1 sister - and we have all managed to become good great friends. I am also supported by an incredible wife. Although she may not understand my incoherent rambling after a long day of school, she still has the ability to listen to me. She can sense when I need a break from the books. She can detect stress in a misplaced wrinkle on my forehead. After nearly 10 years of marriage, she hears me when I don’t say a word. I have been truly blessed.
While I have yet to read scientific evidence to prove this, I believe when someone is listening, a force is generated. Depending on the strength of the connection, this force can even seem palpable. I’m not sure how to describe it. Like a blending of energies and souls. Listening can be powerful medicine, and I look forward to witnessing its healing effects in my practice.
They escaped the valley just in time.
Every couple of years, my wife goes on a “girl’s trip” with her mom and sister. This year, our daughter joined the ranks on their 5 day trip to San Francisco. I dropped them off at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport this morning on my way to school. It’s a good thing she wasn’t awake or I probably would have cried a little. Don’t laugh. I’m sensitive. Tonight will be the first time since she was born that I won’t get to rock her to sleep. In spite of all the poop and puke and drool, that little lady has grown on me somethin’ fierce.
I know they landed safe because my wife texted me, but other than that I haven’t heard much. I think that means they’re having fun.
One thing is for sure - they certainly picked the right time to leave the valley. We were hit by a pretty nasty dust and rain storm on my way home from school today. I was pretty sure our new garden would be reduced to a pile of mud by the time I got home. As you can see from my tweet to the Mac & Gaydos Radio Show, it survived. I’m still waiting to hear if Mr. Gaydos will be coming over to clean the pool.
@MacandGaydos The garden survived. The pool, unfortunately, is a vile dusty brew. Gaydos should clean it for me. twitter.com/alanbradford/s…
